Shelton Police Chief’s Contract Extended

The Board of Aldermen has approved a new three-year employment contract for police Chief Joel Hurliman.

Hurliman, who has worked for the Shelton Police Department since 1978, said he looks forward to continuing the job.

Christopher Davis, the 35-year-old tow truck driver from Hamden who was shot while trying to repossess a minivan in Ansonia Wednesday, was scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday afternoon at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Guilty Plea In Shelton Larceny

A Wallingford woman who was accused of stealing more than $10,000 from two Shelton companies she worked for pleaded guilty Thursday in Superior Court in Derby under a plea agreement.

Police said Tammy Granata, 38, used business checking accounts from Health Plan One, LLC and Healthcare Subrogation Group to pay phone, Internet and car insurance bills.

She also made payments on a Harley Davidson motorcycle and paid for her daughter’s school lunch using the business accounts, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

UPDATE: Repo Man Shot In Ansonia

UPDATE: Police identified the victim Thursday morning as Christopher Davis, 35, of Hamden.

Police Thursday also identified the shooter as Efrain Rodriguez, 30. He was charged with first-degree assault, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal violation of a protective order. He is scheduled to appear in Derby court today (March 4).

Sabrina Vazquez, 30, was charged with interfering with a police officer. She was released on a promise to appear in court March 15.

The shooting took place outside the residence where the couple lives. Rodriguez was under a court order to stay away from Vazquez, police said.

Ansonia Officer Fights For Promotion

A city police officer is suing his boss and the city, claiming he was passed over for a promotion to sergeant.

Peter Lovermi, a 10-year-veteran of the department, was next in line for the promotion after a sergeant’s exam in 2007, according to his lawsuit.

However, the city opted not to fill the position.

Schwab’s ‘Resolved’ Case Continued

Oxford Ambulance Association Director Jerome “Jerry” Schwab appeared in Superior Court in Derby Monday for his driving under the influence case, despite having “reached a resolution” for the charges.

Schwab’s case was continued to March 9.

But what happened at court Monday and the reason for the continuance remain unknown because the contents of Schwab’s file are statutorily sealed from the public.

Police: Fake Cash Circulating In The Valley

Police are warning merchants to be on the lookout for counterfeit money circulating through the area.

Three people have been arrested so far in connection to the case.

Hard-to-spot counterfeit $100 bills have been passed at a number of Ansonia businesses, Detective Sgt. Patrick Lynch said Wednesday.
