Regional Rape Crisis Center Seeking Volunteers

The Rape Crisis Center of Milford is now accepting applications for the upcoming training to become a certified sexual assault crisis counselor. (CT State Statute 52-146(k) The training program will begin on September 21, 2010.
The center serves Ansonia, Derby, Milford, Orange, Seymour, Shelton, West Haven, with a mission to eliminate violence and sexual assault through education and prevention and to empower victims to regain control of their lives.

Oxford Peach Festival Photo Winners Announced

The Oxford Historical Society has announced the winners in the photo displays at the recent Peach Festival.
One photo in each category were selected as the People’s Favorites, including Favorite Animals today, Heritage Animals and Oxford Olde Tyme Fair photos. In addition, those photos who received nearly as many votes as the category winners were given Honorable Mention.

Shelton Fundraiser To Help Fallen Firefighters

The Shelton Fire Department and Chili’s in Shelton will host a fundraiser Monday night to help the families of two Bridgeport firefighters who died fighting a fire last month.
All proceeds will go toward the Bridgeport Fallen Firefighters Fund, which was set up to aid the families of Lt. Steven Valasquez and firefighter Michel Baik, who were killed while fighting a fire on Elmwood Avenue in Bridgeport in July.

Ansonia To Participate in Prescription Drug “Take-Back”

The Ansonia Police Department will participate in a Drug Enforcement Administration prescription drug “Take-Back” even on Saturday Sept. 25.
Citizens are encouraged to bring all expired, unwanted or unused drugs to the Ansonia Rescue Medical Headquarters located on West Main Street between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

19 Oil Drums Shipped To Iraq and Afghanistan

American military troops in Iraq and Afghanistan will receive 19 recycled 30-gallon oil drums filled with dry goods collected by the Naugatuck Valley community last spring.
The drums were recently shipped by Better Packages Inc. in Shelton.
Some of the soldiers who will be receiving the drums are: Captain Justin Anderson of Middletown, Fran Evon of Newington, 1LT Garrett Sheehan of Derby, SPC Alan Poulan and SPC Albert Barnes of Oxford, SSG Joseph Paoli of Shelton, and Hammond Henry and SPC Jason Litke from Naugatuck.

Road Race To Benefit Spooner House and Wesley Village
