Soon after Shelton developer James Botti received approvals for his Crown Point development on Bridgeport Avenue, he paid for Mayor Mark A. Lauretti’s family to vacation at Disney World in Florida.

That’s according to Botti’s former accountant, Michael Plude, who testified on the third day of Botti’s federal corruption trial at U.S. District Court in New Haven Wednesday.

Schwab’s DUI Case Is Over

Update: Shelton For Sale, Prosecutor Says

Mayor Mark A. Lauretti was the special guest star in most of the questioning and arguments heard on the first day of the federal corruption trial for Shelton developer James Botti.

Prosecutors kicked off the trial Monday by telling the jury that Botti bribed Lauretti with “tens of thousands of dollars” and favors such as free renovations on Lauretti’s home in his quest to get development projects approved in Shelton.

SHELTON’S GILLEN WINS NEW ENGLAND TITLE

Shelton junior Patrick Gillen is the 215-pound New England Wrestling champion.

Gillen claimed the title at 215 with a 7-0 decision over Steve Collins of Reading, Mass. on Saturday night.

“I wrestled my match, I didn’t allow him to get any opportunities — and I took advantage of my opportunities,” Gillen said.

Bowling For A Cause

That was the sound of more than 1,250 people from the Valley and the Greater New Haven area bowling for charity Saturday afternoon at the Milford AMF Lanes, where probably more than $100,000 was being raised for The Umbrella and Domestic Violence Services of Greater New Haven.

The December mudslide on North Oak Avenue continues to have residual effects, as the city strives to determine who’s responsible and — more importantly — who’s paying.

Meanwhile, the physical situation has been essentially unchanged since the home at 161 North Oak Ave. was torn down on Dec. 18.

A group of residents and city officials met in Mayor Mark A. Lauretti’s office Thursday evening to discuss the issues.
